Ten women killed as tractor falls into stream
Ten women were killed in an accident when the tractor - trailer in which they were going for work plunged into the Nagarjuna Sagar canal near Sattenapalli in Guntur district on Monday morning.All of them were agricultural workers belonging to Sundarayya Colony in Sattenapalli town. Police and local people who rushed to the scene of the mishap could recover nine bodies. The condition of one among the four persons injured is critical.
A total of 24 workers were travelling in the ill - fated vehicle. According to eye - witness accounts, the vehicle fell into the canal when the driver was taking a right turn into an agricultural field on the outskirts of Sattenapalli. In - Charge Collector A Sarath and Superintendent of Police A Ravi Chandra visited the accident spot.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the District Collector to help provide emergency and adequate treatment to the injured and compensation as per norms.
