England's Bresnan in injury scare

Team officials say England bowler Tim Bresnan went through a precautionary scan on his calf after feeling discomfort in his right leg.

Bresnan felt minor pain on Wednesday but a team official hoped the medium fast bowler, who also bats lower down the order, will be fit for Saturday's quarterfinal against Sri Lanka.

Bresnan flew back home during the one-day series against Australia earlier his year when he suffered injury in the same muscle.

He has shouldered the burden of England's seam attack by taking nine wickets in six World Cup group matches as his fellow pace bowlers have struggled on the slow wickets of the subcontinent.

England vs Ireland (ENG vs IRE) ICC World Cup Live Cricket Score.

England vs Ireland Live Cricket ScoreCricket, England vs Ireland (Eng vs Ire) live score video, Eng 107 for 1. Strauss was taken by Dockrell. But the run rate has refused to come down. Petersen is playing at 59 and Trott at 10 at the end of 15th over.

18 year old Dockrell has broken the great partnership between Strauss and Petersen. Both were batting like run machines and had accumulated 91 runs in just about 3 overs.

Almost all the bowlers from Ireland looked hapless while the duo hammered every other ball for fours and sixes. Petersn completed his 53 runs off just 44 balls while Strauss faced 37 balls and scored 34 runs.

Many had started thinking that the two would score as many as 400 runs together if Strauss played like his game against Indian inning. But the teenaged sensation Dockrell successfully broke this partnership in his very second over.

Today’s match between England and Ireland can make waves back in home than in Bangalore. Irish players have been cherishing a World Cup match with their giant neighbor. The minnows also want a breakthrough win in the mega event to enliven their names for ever.

More than making the World Cup "more colorful," Irish players expect a sea change in their cricketing career. But, they are aware of English people who fought India to a heart throbbing tie before the cheering gallery at Chinnaswamy stadium at Bangalore.

Irish captain Will Porterfield could realize the English power when Strauss anchored the team to scale a Himalayan score card built by Scahin and Co. Moreover, Ireland is a rookie team to cricket world where England reins the role of mother of the game.

We're making steps in the right direction and we've just got to get that stage where we're producing more international cricketers," said Porterfield admitting their inexperience as a non-test team. However, the team has to boast over their raise to level on points with Zimbabwe in the ICC's one-day rankings.

Above all the match against England will be a home thriller in Ireland considering it as a revolutionary fight against their ‘old enemy.' Plenty of people back home would watch the game and hoping to see Irish players getting one over on the English.

“We need absolutely no motivation when facing the old enemy and I know how desperate everyone in the camp is to atone for what we see as our failure on Friday night," Porterfield noted before the match "In many ways the game is like a local derby, and we know anything can happen on the day."

England clash with Ireland in the World Cup 2011 cricket match today. The Eng vs Ire match is happening at the Bangalore Chinnaswamy Stadium. England won the toss and chose to bat against Ireland.

An England vs Ireland fixture might not be a sell-out, but the match assumes importance since England only narrowly managed a win against Netherlands, and then could just tie with India.

For England, Stuart Broad is back in the attack in place of Ajmal Shehzad, and Ireland sees Gary Wilson enter the team in place of Andre Botha.

ICC Cricket Live Score: ENG vs NED 2011 ODI Live Streaming.

England vs Netherland (ENG vs NED) ICC World Cup Live Cricket Score.

England vs NetherlandTim Bresnan has Dutch opener Kervezee caught by Matt Prior as England get off the mark. Click through for LIVE STREAMING!

The Toss

The Netherlands have won the toss and elected to bat against England in Nagpur.

Match Preview

Set to experiment with Kevin Pietersen as an opener, England take on the Netherlands in their ICC Cricket World Cup Group B match in Nagpur on Tuesday aiming for the flying start that would set them up for the bigger battles that lie ahead in the mega event.

Drubbed 1-6 by Australia in the ODI series just before the ICC CWC, Andrew Strauss and his boys would be desperate to put aside the disappointment when they face off against the Dutch at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha.

When Steven Gerrards and John Terrys are pitted against the likes Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie, there isn't much to choose between the two teams but when England take on its 'Oranje' counterpart, it becomes a mismatched battle.

But as England wicketkeeper Matt Prior pointed out on Sunday, it would be important to have a good start and taking the Netherlands lightly could end up giving them a rude shock because World Cups have had a history of having at least one match in which the David manages to down the Goliath.

England, in fact, don't have to look too far behind for an example. Two years ago in their opening encounter of the World Twenty20 at the Lord's, the Dutchmen stunned the hosts by four wickets which is till date the most memorable achievement by the Oranje brigade.

Six players who played that day - Bas Zuiderent, Peter Borren, Pietar Seelaar, Tom de Grooth, Alex Kerevezee, Ryan ten Doeschate - are in the current squad and would be looking to do an encore.

However, Dutch coach Peter Drinnen is all cautious when reminded of that achievement.

"We don't want to get ahead of ourselves as we want to perform to the best of our abilities," Drinnen said.

The focus of the England team will be obviously on their star batsman Kevin Pietersen who will be seen in a new avatar as an opener.

The destruction that KP can cause during fielding restrictions can be a bowler's worst nightmare coming true in broad daylight. And England will be hoping to make full use of Powerplays with him around.

Pietersen was impressive in his new role when he emerged the top-scorer for his team with a useful 66 during their 67 run win over Pakistan in a warm-up game at Fatullah.

While England will be missing Eoin Morgan in the middle-order, a lot will depend on how Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara and Paul Collingwood perform during the middle overs when the proceedings slow down a bit.

The Jamtha strip appears to be full of runs. The warm-up game between New Zealand and Ireland saw nearly 600 runs being scored.

Therefore, it's obviously going to be a 'win the toss and bat first track' where England would like to pile on a huge score and then get the opposition out cheaply.

England looked out of sync against Canada in their first warm-up game but were in their element against Pakistan.

Jonathan Trott's finger injury is also a concern for the team. Although it has been learnt that it's not a case of fracture but the batsman has had a bad bruise and might have to play through pain.

In case Trott doesn't make it, it will be young Luke Wright who might just get a look-in. His ability to bowl seamers along with his big-hitting prowess may make him a useful replacement candidate.

The England team may not see too many changes in their playing XI save for off-spinner Graeme Swann who is likely to come in place of Michael Yardy. The three pacers will be Stuart Broad, James Anderson and Tim Bresnan.

Broad has been in superb form during the practice matches as he blew away the Pakistan top-order during his five-wicket spell. Broad's performance with the new ball will be an important factor if England intends to go the distance in the tournament.

For Netherlands though, it will be a test of character where they would need to show the world that they are good enough to at least compete with the top teams after having qualified for the cricketing extravaganza for the fourth time.

Beating a Test nation would be a great boost for cricket in the country and also an opportunity to prove to the ICC that its decision to curtail the number of teams for the next edition isn't correct.

The only injury concern is regular captain Peter Borren who was suffering from side strain but is trying hard to make it in time.

In case Borren is ruled out, it will be Bas Zuiderent who will lead the side. Much will depend on Ryan ten Doeschate's all-round abilities.

Also Tom de Grooth, who scored a defining 49 when the Dutch beat England in the Twenty20 match, will be a vital cog.

Teams:

England: AJ Strauss (Captain), KP Pietersen, IJL Trott, IR Bell, PD Collingwood, RS Bopara, MJ Prior (WK), TT Bresnan, SCJ Broad, GP Swann, JM Anderson

Netherlands: AN Kervezee, W Barresi (WK), TLW Cooper, RN ten Doeschate, B Zuiderent, TN de Grooth, PW Borren (Captain), Mudassar Bukhari, PM Seelaar, BP Loots, BA Westdijk

Head-to-Head: The two countries have played just two games in ODIs - both at the World Cup. England won the Peshawar ODI by 49 runs on February 22, 1996 and East London ODI by 6 wickets on February 16, 2003.

World Cup record:

- England have won 36 and lost 22 out of 59 contested at the WC (NR 1) - winning % 62.06

- Netherlands have won just 2 out of 14 played (12 lost) at the WC - winning % 14.28

- At Nagpur (VCAS) only two games have been played. India defeated Australia by 99 runs on October 28, 2009 and Sri Lanka beat India by 3 wickets on December 18, 2009.

Approaching milestones

- Kevin Pietersen (444 at an average of 55.50 in 9 games) needs 56 runs to complete his 500 runs in the World Cup. Only four batsmen have amassed 500 runs or more for England in the World Cup - Graham Gooch (897), Allan Lamb (656), Graeme Hick (635) and Alec Stewart (606).

- Paul Collingwood (413 at an average of 45.88 in 14 matches) requires 87 runs to complete his 500 runs in the World Cup.

- Andrew Strauss (3871 at 34.87 in 120 games) requires 129 runs to complete his 4,000 runs in ODIs.

- James Anderson (186 wickets at 30.46 in 137 matches) is likely to complete his 200 wickets in ODIs during the course of the World Cup competition.

Prince William - Kate Middleton Engagement

UK's Prince William engaged to Kate Middleton.

Prince William - Kate Middleton Engagement
Prince William and girlfriend Kate Middleton are engaged and will marry next spring or summer in London - a royal wedding that Britons have been eagerly awaiting for years.

The announcement Tuesday by royal officials ends an on-again, off-again romance that began after the two met more than eight years ago as students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

Prince Charles' Clarence House office said the heir to the British throne is "delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton." It said they got engaged last month during a vacation in Kenya.

Prime Minister David Cameron said he was delighted by the news, and sent the couple his best.

The prince, who is second in line to the throne, once told an interviewer he wouldn't marry "until I'm at least 28 or maybe 30." He turned 28 in June and recently completed training a Royal Air Force search and rescue pilot.

The royal family is said to approve of Middleton, the daughter of self-made millionaires. Her father worked for an airline and her mother was a flight attendant before they started a mail-order business specializing in children's parties, run from their farm in southern England.

Middleton works for the family business.

Commentators have been anticipating a summer 2011 wedding, a date that avoids both the Olympics and Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, both due to be held in 2012. Bookmakers stopped taking bets on a 2011 wedding months ago, saying all signs were pointing to a marriage next year.

Earlier this month the Middletons joined members of the royal family for a shooting holiday at the Balmoral estate in Scotland - another milestone on Kate's road to acceptance by the family's inner circle.

The venue for the wedding was not announced.

"Prince William has informed the queen and other close members of his family," the Clarence House statement said. "Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton's father."

It said after the wedding, the couple will "live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force."

Massive fire breaks out in Shoreditch in London

A major fire in London brought a large part of the city's financial district to a halt on Thursday (March 11), when a four-floor building housing offices and a restaurant on Tabernacle Street caught fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. From the point of origin the blaze soon spread to adjoining areas till two floors were seen blazing and filling the air all around with thick fumes.

The smoke could be seen as far away as Hackney and Liverpool Street Station, with London Fire Brigade taking numerous calls from people in surrounding areas.

No one had been reported injured, the buildings were unoccupied when the fire was reported first in the early hours today at around 4:32 am. However largescale damage to property is feared.

More than 100 firefighters were tackling the fire that is believed to have started in a restaurant and spread through an entire office block in central London. The Tabernacle Street houses a number of stylish bars and restaurants, including the Soho Bar, The Windmill and The East Room.

Part of the ground floor and part of the first floor were still alight at the time of filing this report, according to the London Fire Brigade's Web site. About half of the roof was also on fire, according to Mark Bloomfield, station master at the fire brigade.

All major streets in the area including City Road were blocked off even as the area remained obscured in thick smoke making access by foot or vehicle difficult.

"Until the fire is completely doused it will be sometime before the extent of the fire can be properly assessed. Fire fighters have been unable to enter the building and it is still ablaze," a London reporter told

Alexander McQueen found dead

Fashion designer Alexander McQueen hanged himself.

Alexander McQueen
Fashion designer Alexander McQueen hanged himself in a wardrobe after leaving a note, an inquest in London has been told.

He was found dead at his London home on Thursday, as final preparations were being made for his spring collection to be unveiled in Paris. Westminster Coroner's Court was told a post-mortem examination had said he had died due to asphyxiation and hanging.

Mr McQueen died the eve of the funeral of his mother, Joyce. The five-minute hearing was told his body had been identified on the day of his death by his sister, Janet McQueen, of Hornchurch, Essex.

Det Insp Paul Armstrong told the inquest there were no suspicious circumstances. He presented the note found at the scene to the coroner, Dr Paul Knapman, for further investigation.

Coroner's officer Lynda Martindill said no report of the post-mortem examination was yet available. Dr Knapman adjourned the inquest until 1000 GMT on 28 April. Reporters were passed a note asking them to respect the McQueen family's privacy.

Mr McQueen was named British designer of the year four times after 1996. His close friend fashion stylist Isabella Blow, who helped launch his career, killed herself in 2007.

Performing at the Brit awards on Tuesday night, Mr McQueen's friend Lady Gaga dedicated a song to him.

Today at the opening of an inquest into his death Dr Paul Knapman, the coroner, was handed a note found at the scene. Detective Inspector Paul Armstrong told the court there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the designer's death.

Westminster Coroner’s Court heard that the 40-year-old’s post-mortem examination found that he died from asphyxiation and hanging.

McQueen’s body was identified by his sister Janet McQueen on the day of his death, the five-minute hearing heard. A full inquest will be heard at a later date.

The designer was found dead on the eve of the funeral of his mother, Joyce. It is believed that McQueen was inconsolable after her death earlier this month. In a comment on his Twitter page days before his death he wrote that it had been an “awful week”.

McQueen was one of Britain’s most feted designers. A four-time winner of the British designer of the year award, he designed for Givenchy and was creative director of his own label, in which Gucci held a majority shareholding.

McQueen’s close friend, Isabella Blow, killed herself three years ago at the age of 48. Suffering from cancer and depression, she died after drinking weedkiller after telling friends she was going out shopping.

Jonathan Coad, who represented the McQueen family, made no comment after the hearing. A letter was passed to reporters asking the media to respect the McQueen family’s privacy.

It said: “This notice on behalf of the McQueen family for your recognition that it has suffered a grievous double loss in a very short space of time and that any insensitive and/or intrusive photographs and/or footage will only compound to the family’s distress.”

Sania Mirza slips to 77 in WTA ranking

The first round exit from the Pattaya Open last week severely affected Sania Mirza's singles ranking as the Indian slipped 18 positions to 77 in the latest WTA list issued today.

Sania's start to the 2010 season has been far from impressive as she could not cross the first hurdle at three tournaments -- including Australian Open -- out of the four she has played so far.

Sania's doubles ranking also suffered, going down to 36, a loss of three spots.

In the ATP rankings, Somdev Devvarman (141) had his ranking unchanged in the singles chart while Leander Paes (7) and Mahesh Bhupathi (8) were also static in the doubles.
