23-year-old software engineer falls to death from terrace.

A 23-year-old software engineer fell from the terrace of her apartment near Electronic City and committed suicide. The deceased, Swagatika Das, was a native of Jharkand and had been staying at the apartment for the past year-and-a-half.

According to the police, Sawgatika was engaged to Mr Robin Mandela, who is a software engineer. “Swagatika and Mr Mandela were working in Pune for different companies but both took transfers to Bengaluru and were staying on different floors of the same apartment in Konappana Agrahara near Electronic City. Their families had agreed to their marriage and the couple was recently engaged,” said the police.

According to Mr Mandela, Swagatika and Mr Mandela had gone to the terrace on Monday night and while they were talking, Swagatika reportedly stepped on the parapet and lost balance. The incident occurred at around 10.30 pm. The Electronic City police have sent the body for a post mortem and a case of unnatural death has been registered.

In another incident, a 24-year-old woman committed suicide within the Kamakshipalya police station limits on Monday night. The deceased,Shashikala, was a resident of Meenakshinagar.

The police said that Shashikala’s husband had passed away a while ago and Shashikala had a second marriage and married Shivakanth around two years ago. However, the couple used to quarrel frequently after Shashikala found out that Shivakanth intended to marry another colleague and leave Shashikala. The Kamakshipalya police have taken Shivakanth into custody and are questioning him.

Additional District Collector Yashwant Sonawane burnt alive

Additional Collector burnt alive in Maharashtra, 3 held.

An additional District Collector was on Tuesday burnt alive allegedly by petrol mafia at Manmad in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, police said.

Additional District Collector Yashwant Sonawane was accompanied by his personal assistant and driver when the incident took place at a roadside Dhaba near Manmad town, about 260 km from here.

“Preliminary reports say Mr. Sonawane had gone there to conduct a raid on petrol and diesel mafia. There some people, believed to be associated with the mafia, set him on fire causing his death,” Additional Director General (Law & Order) K P Rahuvanshi said.

Another report said Mr. Sonawane had stopped at a roadside hotel on way to a certain place to oversee security arrangements for an event when he found people adulterating fuel.

Mr. Sonawane objected to it, leading to a scuffle during which he was set ablaze.

Three detained

Three persons, including the suspected main culprit, have been detained for burning to death Mr. Sonawane, police said.

“The main culprit in the incident has also sustained burn injuries and he along with two aides has been detained. Further investigations are on,” Rafeeq Shaikh, Inspector at Manmad police station, told PTI.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Gazetted Officers Federation has called for a day-long strike on January 27 to protest the murder.

G.V. Kulthe, general secretary of the Federation told PTI that other unions will join the Federation members in staging a massive protest against the “shocking” and “gruesome” incident.
