Prince William and Kate Middleton could honeymoon in Queensland.
AUSTRALIA has entered the fray as a possible honeymoon destination for Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Rumours are the newly engaged couple are seriously considering the islands of North Queensland for a romantic getaway.
But our golden beaches face stiff competition, with British bookmakers rating Australia a 20-1 prospect behind Kenya, the Seychelles or Scotland as the pair's destinations of choice.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland CEO Rob Gaison said he hadn't yet received a phone call from the prince to make a booking.
"Why wouldn't they want to come this way, though?" he said. "Obviously he has shown excellent choice in his choice of partner and, if this is correct, excellent choice in holiday destination."
Mr Gaison said the pair could enjoy "the best the world has to offer".
"If they are looking in our direction they are looking at the right quality," he said.
Luxury resort Lizard Island, touted as a place the couple could be considering, said they hadn't heard anything of the rumours but would be "delighted" to host them.
William and Kate may need a low-key honeymoon after it was revealed their Westminster Abbey nuptials next April 29 could include a street party, concert and an extended Easter holiday for Britons.
"Their view on it would be, 'let's have a party'," a Palace aide said. "Prince William and Catherine made it very clear they wish everybody to be able to enjoy it with them, consequently it will be a proper celebration."
And rather than leaving the decision-making to palace aides, William and Kate are taking a hands-on approach.
"They are very much in charge of the arrangements," a St James Palace spokesman said. "They're giving us and the household office very firm direction indeed."
The 28-year-olds reportedly want the wedding to be a "semi-state" affair, showing off classic British grandeur without the pomp.
To add to their modern approach the wedding bill will also be split between the parents and in-laws.
