India keeps alive its dreams to be the second finisher on the medal table of the Commonwealth Games 2010. The hosts could maintain their second spot in the medal table on the fourth day of the Games in New Delhi.

Indian athletes bagged 10 more medals including three gold ones on Thursday. Most medals came from shooting, archery, weightlifting and wrestling competitions.

Indian shooters Gurpeet Singh, Vijay Kumar and Omkar Singh ensured the country’s domination at the shooting range of the Games on Thursday also. Earlier on Wednesday, top Indian shooters like Gagan and Bindra had showcased some scintillating performances.

Gurpeet was the leader of medals in the Dr: Karni Shooting Range on the fourth day of the Games. Gurpeet joined hands with Kumar and Omkar respectively to win gold medals in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol and 10m Air Pistol items.

One another gold medal for India came through Geeta, the first women wrestler for the country to grab gold in the Commonwealth Games. Geeta pulled down Australia’s Emily Bensted in the 55kg category. The wrestler from Haryana had marched into the finals trouncing Nigeria’s Lovina Odohi Edward.

India pocketed a number of silver medals on Thursday through shooter Ronjan Sondhi, men’s Archery Compound Team and grappler Nirmala Devi. Meanwhile, Indian women’s Archery Compound Team, woman wrestler Suman Kundu, weightlifter Sudhir Kumar and gymnast Ashish Kumar (floor exercise) bagged bronze medals for India.

In the same time, swimmers mostly from England raised some concerns about the hygiene of pools of the Commonwealth Games 2010. Athletes are scared of some pool-related sickness, reports said.
