Eminem is known for his controversial songs that cause many polemics and are often subjected to censorship. His latest single, "Love the Way You Lie," featuring Rihanna, has been topic of discussion among many critics who consider it to be a violence-encouraging song because of the themes it approaches, such as domestic violence.
Eminem and Rihanna: Abusive Relationships’ Past

One of the main things that caused discussions and debates over the newly-released single “Love the Way You Lie,” is the fact that both Eminem and Rihanna have a well-known past characterized by abusive relationships.

Eminem debuted with songs dedicated to his ex-wife, Kim. In his third studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP (2000), Eminem talks about his turbulent relationship in songs like “Kill You,” and “Kim.”

Rihanna’s incident of domestic violence, occurred in February 2009, made headlines all over the world. Although she broke up with her abuser, Chris Brown, at first she was criticized because she went back to him, even if he assaulted her, causing her evident contusions all over her face. At the beginning it seemed as if she had forgiven him for hurting her, just like she sings in the chorus of “Love the Way You Lie.”

“Love the Way You Lie” is the second single from Eminem’s new album Recovery. After “Not Afraid,” this song has hit the top charts since its release. However, the lyrics are causing many enflamed discussions because of the typical Slim Shady’s raw and straightforward rapping style.

In particular, the chorus, sang by Rihanna, has been said to promoting domestic violence and female abuse:

Eminem describes a dysfunctional and abusive relationship, in which many see his rocky and unstable sentimental connection to ex-wife Kim, whom he married and divorced twice. The song approaches many themes: from blind jealousy to the pain caused by the break-up, followed by reconciliation and promises of never hurting the beloved one ever again.

The song, however, concludes with a promise/threat that has been criticized because of the extremely violent message they spread:
