Building collapse for earthquake kills 3 people in Haiti
Two people died on Sunday in Haiti after an earthquake made a building collapse in the north of the country, a spokesman of the United Nations said.
Other three people were rescued from the rubble of the building and they were taken to hospital.
According to information reaching here from Port au Prince, Haiti's capital, the earthquake was felt in Cabo Haitiano, the second most important and populated city of Haiti.
The Haitian police, agents of civil protection and the UN peace troops are looking for more survivors.
It is believed that the earthquake could have been an aftershock of the ones registered in the last hours in the Caribbean islands neat to Haiti, for example Cuba and Puerto Rico, where there were registered earthquakes of 5.6 and 2.9 magnitude.
Cabo Haitiano is located in the geological fault which on Saturday produced three moderate earthquakes in Cuba.
Cabo Haitiano was not affected by the earthquake of 7.3 magnitude that shook the country on Jan. 12.
Meanwhile, Japanese Foreign Minister Natanya Okada announced that his country will give 70 million U.S. dollars to Haiti for the reconstruction works after the earthquake on Jan. 12.
Okada met on Saturday with Haitian President Rene Preval and Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive to discuss the situation in the country.
