Pakistani militant group claims Pune blast

An obscure militant group has claimed responsibility for last weekend's bomb blast in the western Indian city of Pune which killed 10 people.

A man saying he is a representative of a group known as Lashkar-e-Taiba Al Alami made the claim to The Hindu newspaper.

Calling himself Abu Jindal, he says the group is an offshoot of the Pakistani-based militant organisation and it carried out the strike because of India's refusal to discuss Kashmir in soon-to-be-held talks with Pakistan.

At this stage Indian officials are treating the claim with caution.

They say it could be an attempt to divert attention away from Lashka-e-Toiba, which is widely regarded to have the support of the Pakistani military.

The toll from the Pune blast has risen to 10 after the death of a 23-year-old man who was badly wounded on Saturday night.

Indian police have detained four people for questioning about the attack.
