Six killed in Karachi house explosion : Pakistan News Said
The blast happened in Balida Town, a poor neighbourhood of the southern city, Pakistan's commercial hub.
The cause of the blast was not immediately known, but local TV showed footage of a destroyed building.
"There was a blast in a house in Karachi's Balida Town in which six people were killed. The house collapsed. We are trying to ascertain the exact nature of the blast," senior police official Abdul Majeed Dasti told the AFP news agency.
He said hand grenades and a Kalashnikov rifle had been found at the site of the explosion.
Pakistan has seen an upsurge in violence in recent months.
Hundreds of civilians have died in bomb attacks as Pakistan's army concludes an offensive against Taliban militants in South Waziristan and surrounding areas.
DIG West Abdul Majeed Dasti has confirmed the killing of six people. The bodies are still trapped under the rubbles of the part of the house that caved-in due to explosion as bomb disposal squad is searching for more explosives.
Police and Rangers have cordoned off the area. Two hand grenades, a suicide jacket and a Kalashnikov recovered from the blast site.
On Dec. 28, a bombing against a Shiite Muslim religious procession in the city killed 43 people and wounded dozens. Riots broke out after that attack, with people setting fire to the country's largest wholesale market. The blaze burned for more than two days and destroyed thousands of shops in the area.
